But in terms of maximum speed, only Mugello saw the MotoGP bikes go any faster than the 341.8 km/h (212.4 mph) recorded by Max Biaggi’s Honda last year. |

The roads around Le Mans have seen motor racing since 1906, but today's circuit dates back to 1923 when the 24 Hour race was first run over a 17 km course which ran almost into the city of Le Mans. A magnificent race control tower, permanent offices and pit complex were unveiled in 1991, together with the short GP Bugatti track. Spectators are mostly confined to the section bewteen the Ford Curves and Tetre Rouge. |

When the Italian heroes of the MotoGP class join battle, lifting their front wheels at more than 340 km/h (211 mph) on the front straight and jostling for position round the swooping final corner, then it is a really special day. |

By the time the GP circus makes a second trip of the season to Spain the pace is hotting up and the tough are showing their mettle. The race takes place only one week after the Italian round; the season is getting serious.The 4.727 km (2.937-mile) track was built for both F1 and motorcycle GP racing, and this introduces a special complication for riders and technicians. The huge braking forces generated by the cars causes the tarmac to distort on the corner entries. |

The first Dutch Motorcycle TT was organised in 1925 and has been held ever since, expect during WW2. It is the only circuit which has held a round of the motorcycle world championship since its inception in 1949. Until 1954 the TT was held on public roads over a course of about 14 km, then in 1955 a closed road course was built, utilising a small part of the former course on the start/finish straight. |

Racing started at Laguna Seca on California's spectacular Monterey Coastline in the late 1950's on the site of a former US Army base. Traditionally associated with sports car racing and the annual Monterey Historic Festival, the challenging road course has since 1983 also hosted a round of the CART Championship and has been the scene for many thrilling races. |

The area around Chemnitz has a tradition of motor sport dating back to the 1920's. There have been car and bike races held there on closed public roads righjt up till 1990, the 8 km course through densely populated area was considered no longer suitable. The famous MZ motorcycle factory lies just to the south. But it is the little town of Hohenstein-Ernstthal, 8 km west of Chemnitz and which is now the home of a brand new race track: the Sachsenring. |

The event is held at the ultra-modern Shanghai International Circuit, which was bankrolled by the government to the tune of $325 million and surpasses even Sepang in state-of-the-art splendour. The facility will certainly provide a striking backdrop, with gleaming, futuristic architecture including two giant steel-and-glass “wings” 140 metres wide which bestride the start-finish straight. |

Donington was built in 1931 for motor-cycle events and then staged numerous Grand Prix races and other international events in 1935 - 1938. Closed during the second World War, the circuit was resurrected in the 1970's by entrepeneur Wheatcroft and re-openend in 1977. |
 | CZECH REPUBLIC MOTO GP - 16/08
The third-longest lap of the year comes at a magnificent circuit, built to late 20th century standards but on the scale of the old post-war GP classics. Brno was a GP racing venue long before the World Championship began, and the current circuit was inaugurated in 1987 after the daunting old public road track had been dropped as too dangerous. |

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was constructed in 1909, by four rich businessmen. The aim of the circuit was to create a test environment for the strongly rising car industry. However, soon enough the oval track was used for races between the different car manufacturers. |

Misano has hosted world superbike/supersport racing since 1991 and, officially, this is known as the San Marino round, although the circuit itself is on the border of the tiny principality and is technically in Italy. This is always a favourite venue of fans and riders, who flock to the circuit to enjoy the pleasant climate and neighbouring beach. |

No expense was spared when this state-of-the-art racing facility was built in 1999. Close to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, but some way outside the teeming Malaysian capital, Sepang International Circuit set a new benchmark in world circuit design and construction. |
 | VALENCIA MOTO GP - 08/11
This tight and twisty new circuit became the third Spanish race in 1999, and has since become a high-intensity close to the season. Sponsored by the city of Valencia, and named after local former World Champion and hero, the late Ricardo Tormo, it comes in at the top of the class. |
