The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was constructed in 1909, by four rich businessmen. The aim of the circuit was to create a test environment for the strongly rising car industry. However, soon enough the oval track was used for races between the different car manufacturers. Already after the first race the circuit proved to be death-defying because of the original pavement, which consisted of sand and loose scraps stone. For this reason 3,200,000 "bricks" were imported to make the track smoother. Hence the Indianapolis engine Speedway is also called the "Brickyard".
This circuit was formerly used for the famous Indy 500 and of course the Formula 1 Grand Prix of the United States. MotoGP races were never before held there. For this reason the track is being adapted in such a way that the Indianapolis MotoGP will become the most fascinating race of 2008.
